September 9, 2026 · Honorable Home Repairs
Homeowners usually call about one bad section of siding, a cracked panel, a spot the last storm got to, or a corner that has looked rough for a couple of years. The question underneath that call is always the same: does this need a patch, or does the whole side of the house need to come off? Here is how Dennis actually makes that call when he is standing in front of it.
When a Repair Is the Right Call
If the damage is contained to a handful of panels and the siding around it is still solid, straight, and holding paint or color well, a repair is the honest answer. Matching panels for a partial repair is easiest on common styles and colors, harder on anything discontinued or badly sun-faded, since new siding will not match weathered siding for a season or two either way. A clean, isolated repair on sound siding is a fraction of the cost of a full re-side and holds up just as well.
When It Points to Full Replacement
The signals that push toward replacement are usually not about the one damaged spot, they are about everything around it. Siding that is warped, buckling, or pulling away from the wall in multiple places. Panels that are brittle and crack when touched rather than just at the impact point. Soft or discolored sheathing showing through a gap, which means water has already been getting behind the siding for a while. One bad panel next to ten tired ones is a sign the whole wall is near the end of its life, even if only one spot has failed outright so far.
What Is Underneath Matters More Than What You Can See
Siding is the visible layer, but the sheathing and house wrap behind it are what actually keep water out of the wall. Pulling the damaged section is the only real way to check that, and it is worth doing before committing to either path. Soft or dark sheathing behind a repair area usually changes the plan, since patching new siding over damaged sheathing just hides the same problem behind a fresh panel.

Take a photo of the damaged area and a wider shot of that whole side of the house, and text or call Dennis at (260) 312-5874. He will tell you honestly whether it is a repair or a bigger job, the same free estimate in writing as anything else, and he would rather quote you a smaller job that solves it than talk you into a re-side you do not need.
