Gutters are the cheapest insurance your house has. When they fail, the water they were catching goes to work on your fascia, siding, and foundation instead. After decades of cleaning, repairing, and re-hanging gutters across Fort Wayne, these are the five signs Dennis looks for from the ground.
The Five Signs
One: dirt stripes or tiger-striping down the gutter face, which means overflow. Two: mulch or soil blasted out of beds under the roofline. Three: gutters visibly pulling away from the fascia or sagging mid-run. Four: peeling paint or gray, weathered wood on the fascia board behind the gutter. Five: water in the basement or crawlspace after heavy rain when the yard slopes fine.
Why It Gets Expensive
A packed gutter overflows at the back edge, straight onto the fascia board. Wet fascia rots, rotted fascia lets the gutter spikes pull loose, and the sag gets worse until the run dumps everything at one corner of your foundation. What started as an hour of cleaning becomes carpentry, then drainage work. Fort Wayne's spring maple seeds and fall leaves mean twice-a-year attention is the honest schedule.
The Fix Is Boring, Which Is the Point
Cleaning, flushing the downspouts, re-securing loose runs, and replacing failed fascia where needed. One recent customer's gutters were completely packed; cleaned, flushed, and done, with the downspouts running clear again. If ladders are not in your plans this year, put the job on ours. The estimate is free and in writing.
